Brown Stoneware #259
Cone 6-10
Richer in color tones but similar in nature to #153 - toasty beige in oxidation, and a darker brown in reduction. It's in a cone 6-10 reduction firing where you will really see a difference between this clay and #153. Responds well to all techniques & beneficial to production potters & classrooms alike. Image above shows Standard #259 at Cone 6 oxidation (left), Cone 10 oxidation (center), and Cone 10 reduction (right).
Shrinkage: 12.25% at C/6, 13% at C/10.
Absorption: 4% at C/6, .85% at C/10.
A note from Standard Clay regarding new mining production:
The following clay bodies may be affected 103, 104, 112, 119, 153, 205, 211, 214, 225, 259, 306, 308, 378, 417, 547, 760, 768, 800. While the physical properties of the clay remain within our acceptable specifications, changes in raw material chemistry and mineral composition may influence glaze interaction and final fired appearance. This change may or may not affect your production. We recommend customers perform production testing to confirm glaze fit, surface response, and finished fired color prior to use in regular manufacturing. Hopefully this is a short-term change and the bodies will be back to normal in the near future. We appreciate your understanding and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
