Hollow-Core kiln shelves are just as strong as standard cordierite kiln shelves, but are much, much lighter. These shelves are specially extruded to include a hollow core. Reduce the stress in your arms and back while loading your kiln without losing strength in your shelves! This style shelf also cools down faster than a standard
The measurements are taken from the flat edge of the shelf and are typically rounded up to the nearest whole number. For example a 21" Full Round is actually a 10 sided form measuring 20 1/2" flat edge to flat edge and 22" from the points of the decagon.
A Note for Glass Makers: Kiln shelves may often have a rough surface, or are made with slight imperfections and pockmarks. While this is rarely an issue for ceramic artists, this may be troublesome for those who work with glass. While we cannot accept returns on shelves due to surface variations, we do suggest that glass artists use Thin Fire Shelf Paper which will help combat imperfections in the shelf surface.
