As of November 2024, Skutt is substituting Hollow Core shelves on a case by case basis. Please be aware you may receive a Hollow Core shelf, which is lighter weight but still has a max firing temperature of Cone 10.
Skutt Kiln Shelf - 13" x 26" x 5/8"
This shelf is faceted to fit into a 12 sided kiln with 3" brick.
Made of cordierite. Maximum firing temperature is 2336° F
For salt and wood firings, we recommend silicon carbide shelves instead of cordierite shelves.
A Note for Glass Makers: Kiln shelves may often have a rough surface, or are made with slight imperfections and pockmarks. While this is rarely an issue for ceramic artists, this may be troublesome for those who work with glass. While we cannot accept returns on shelves due to surface variations, we do suggest that glass artists use Thin Fire Shelf Paper which will help combat imperfections in the shelf surface.
