Coyote’s Slow-Cool Crystal Series has been developed to achieve gas fired results in an electric kiln. When applied and fired just right, they take on amazing multicolored hues and beautiful zinc crystals bloom across the surface. Although they take some skill to master, the Slow-Cool Crystals are among the most exciting glazes you will ever use. These beautiful colors aren’t like anything else available.
About slow cool firings:
Slow cool firing can provide dramatically different finishes than if you were to let your kiln naturally cool down. Slow cooling effectively lengthens the period of firing during which most crystals develop, resulting in more and larger crystals. All Coyote glazes can be slow cooled to create one of a kind special effects!
Coyote Slow-Cool glazes work best with the following program:
Ramps 5
100/hr to 220 (this preheat ramp is optional)
350/hr to 2000
150/hr to 2200 hold 15 minutes
500/hr to 2150 hold for 15 minutes
125/hr to 1400
It is important to note that you will need to tweak this schedule for your own kiln and firings. Every kiln is different, so there is no schedule that will work for every firing. We strongly recommend using witness cones to ensure that your kiln is reaching the correct temperature.
