Underglazes:
AMACO® Velvets semi-translucent underglazes have the appearance of velour or velvet when left unglazed or will intensify in color when covered with an AMACO® Clear Transparent or Gloss glaze. Amaco Velvet Underglazes can be used in detailed design work as a Cone 05/06 underglaze or they can be fired up to Cone 6 and maintain their intensity and brightness. All the Velvets are very rich colors and can be used for an all over coverage similar to an opaque underglaze.
AMACO Liquid Underglaze Decorating Colors are intense, opaque colors ideal for covering large areas quickly, easily and smoothly. They can also be used for detailed painting, sgraffito decoration, water color effects, free brush painting, wax resists and mishima decoration. LUGs are dinnerware safe when covered by AMACO clear glazes LG-10, F-10, and HF-9 or any other dinnerware safe glaze. LUG Underglazes are available in 2oz jars and pints in colors: Black, White, Light Blue, Dark Blue, Aqua, Light Brown, Blue Green, Dark Green, Rose, Peach, Dark Red, Light Yellow, Warm Gray, Medium Blue, Turquoise, Mahogany Brown, Chartreuse, Warm Green, Pink, Sun Tan, Lilac, Purple, Bright Yellow, Orange.
Underglaze Decorating Pencils are ideal for shading, fine line drawing or identification. Apply the underglaze pencil to bisque ware to create a variety of unique decorative designs.Unlike regular pencils—care must be taken in sharpening Underglaze Pencils. Do not use a pencil sharpener. It is best to sharpen them with a knife or blade. The maximum firing temperature is Cone 10 for Blue, Black, and Green, Cone 5 for Brown and Yellow, and Cone 05 for Rose.
Amaco Decorating Color Underglaze Pan Sets
Decorating colors are concentrated, intense and opaque. Additional shades and tints can be made by intermixing. Colors may be brushed on either bisque or greenware. A brush dipped in water lifts the color for decorating. Further thinning of the water soluble colors prepares them for transparent water color effects by brushing.
These rich earth colors and subdued tones are created from either natural clays or a mixture or clays and other ceramic raw materials and can be applied using a variety of methods. AMACO Engobes have only been tested and approved as dinnerware safe when applied and fired under AMACO LG-10 Clear Glaze.

AMACO® Gloss Glazes flow slightly during firing to achieve a smooth, high gloss finish. Firing temperature is Cone 05. AMACO® Gloss Glazes fire to a smooth, glossy finish at a witness Cone 05 (1911°F, 1044°C). AMACO® Gloss Glazes flow slightly during firing to a high gloss finish, while correcting most application imperfections.
The AMACO® Matt (LM) Glaze Series is one of the most pleasing for decorative art pottery and tile. These glazes provide a smooth, satin finish which is suitable for glazing pottery shapes formed from all AMACO® dry or moist firing clays. Because AMACO LM Matt Glazes are nonflowing, they are adaptable for some unique types of decoration.
No two pieces glazed with AMACO Textured Alligator Glazes are ever alike due to the many variations in texture which occur in firing. Variegated matt textures predominate at the lower firing temperatures and gloss textures at the higher with a mingling of matt and gloss between the extremes.
Amaco F Series Semi Opaque Glazes
AMACO F-Series Glazes are fritted, leadless compositions. They are semi-opaque and fire with a high gloss. Colors are more intense and brilliant than those of many other glazes. Because AMACO F-Series Glazes are leadless, they are recommended for dinnerware as well as all types of pottery made from AMACO® pottery clays.
Most of the AMACO® Opalescent Glazes have a high gloss similar to mother-of-pearl. Best results are achieved with three or four applications of glaze on red low fire earthenware clay. On textured ware, the glaze flows thin on relief and thick in incised areas, giving an added dimension on the surface.
Crystaltex Glazes are for the potter who dares to try something novel. Multi-color effects can be subtle as with CTL-32, which fires to a creamy yellow peppered with rich brown, or they can be bold like the red, white and blue of CTL-54 Firecracker. No two pieces will ever be alike, but all will be unique.
These glazes will produce a very dramatic effect when reduced after the Raku firing. Raku is a very unpredictable medium and is affected by many variables. The effects achieved with these or any other Raku glazes may not always be the same. Even after you have done Raku for a long time you will see that it is almost impossible to have complete control over the result or a consistent glaze effect even if you are using the glaze from the same jar. However this is a spontaneous technique and all the varied effects are usually acceptable. Tong marks and other marks from reduction material is considered a characteristic of Raku, not a defect.
These special effects glazes imitate the Artist/Potter's favorites. They are Cone 05 oxidation glazes that look like high fired reduction stoneware. Effects like Tommoku, Rutile, Oil Spot, and other reduction surfaces are achieved without the cost or trouble of high fire reduction. Artist Choice glazes look best when applied on red low fire earthenware clay. For application by dipping or pouring, thorough stirring of the glaze is necessary since the crystals settle to the bottom of the jar. A more controlled decorative effect can be obtained by brushing. Dip the brush in the glaze at the top of the jar and apply two or more coats. Lift the crystals from the bottom of the jar with the brush and place where desired.
High Fire (Cone 5-6) Glazes:
Sahara High Fire Glazes produce interesting effects when fired in reduction as well as in oxidation and are compounded to match porcelain and stoneware bodies. Sahara High Fire Glazes work well and produce interesting effects when fired in reduction as well as in oxidation (reduction firing not recommended for HF-26).
AMACO® Potter's Choice glazes achieve the effects of Cone 10 reduction without the need for a reduction gas kiln or firing to high temperatures. These are a collection of potters' favorite glazes made easy and are some of the most popular glazes Amaco makes. Potters Choice glazes are fired in an oxidation kiln. They are made for anyone who would like to achieve the Cone 10 reduction effects without having to have a reduction gas kiln or firing at that high temperature. The PC Series glazes look beautiful and authentic. They work well over any of the AMACO stoneware or porcelain clays.
Like the beautiful ancient glazes they are modeled after, the AMACO Celadon glazes are glossy, transparent, and pool beautifully to add vivid accents to textured and carved surfaces. These playful celadons come in many colors and are 100% mixable- great for finding that perfect color!
Satin Mattes break slightly over edges and texture and boast a soft satin feel. These glazes are formulated to be 100% mixable. Use Clear Satin to lighten color tones, Satin Black to create shades, and Satin White to create tints.
Influenced by the humble earthiness of tea ceremony bowls, our Shino glazes give a traditional high-iron look to any high fire clay body. Beautiful on textured or smooth clay bodies, blendable to get the right degree of matte or glossy surface. Shino glazes can also be layered with our PC line of glazes for different effects.
