Red clays are often called common surface clays because they are the most abundant of all the clays and are contaminated with varying amounts of Iron and other minerals. Their uses range from earthenware to stoneware to fireclay.
Newman's Red is a low plasticity California iron bearing fireclay. A hammer milled material that can have wide variations in particle size. Because of it’s refractory nature and relatively low iron content, it can be added to high fire stonewares to impart red brown colors.
