Talc is the common name of magnesium silicate hydrate, or steatite. Steatite, in turn, is another name for soapstone. The particular talc that we carry here at The Ceramic Shop is white in appearance and fires white.
Talc can be used to increase green strength and plasticity in low-fire clay bodies. It is also used in glaze recipes as a source of MgO.
We have tested this talc as a one-for-one replacement for the Pioneer Talc, and we have found that in most cases it is a good substitute.
We always recommend testing to determine whether this material will fit your application.
