Paragon CS14D - Dual-Opening Power for Precision Glasswork
The Paragon CS Series is built for glass artists who need full control and maximum access when preparing and firing their work. “CS” stands for Clamshell—an opening style that gives users unobstructed visibility and flexibility before firing begins. These kilns are perfect for assembling complex designs, layering glass, and loading slumping molds with ease.
Available in multiple sizes and two formats, the CS Series adapts to how you work:
S models (Single Opening): Traditional clamshell design with walls and lid lifting together.
D models (Dual Opening): Offers both full clamshell access and a separate, hinged lid for top-loading convenience.
Built with Paragon’s signature ceramic fiber technology, precision heat distribution, and the powerful Sentinel Touch Xpress controller, every CS Series kiln is a reliable partner in any fusing, slumping, or glass forming process.
What makes the Paragon CS14D special
The Paragon CS14D gives you everything that makes the CS14S a studio favorite—plus the unmatched flexibility of dual-opening operation. The kiln can open fully from the base as a traditional clamshell or allow you to open just the top lid independently, making it ideal for loading over slumping molds or accessing a specific area without disturbing the full assembly.
This dual-access design gives you more control, faster adjustments, and greater ergonomic convenience—whether you’re fusing flat tiles, slumping over molds, or building with frit and stringers directly on the kiln shelf.
The 14” x 14” square interior is perfect for small glass bowls, layered panels, jewelry, and ornaments. You can even fire up to nine 4” x 4” glass tiles at once. Heating elements are embedded in the lid using pinless grooves, eliminating dust and debris from traditional pins and allowing for faster, cleaner radiant heat from the top.
Built to Perform and Built to Last
The lid is constructed with a protective welded steel cover, bent and secured at the edges for added strength. Inside, the reversible firebrick bottom rests on a heavy-duty steel base that eliminates the need for an external stand. The base extends at the rear to provide full support when the kiln is in the open position, and mar-proof rubber feet protect your work surface.
Two counterweight-assist springs make opening smooth and easy, whether you're using the clamshell or the lid. Mechanical latches ensure safe, secure use in either mode:
- Gravity-operated top latch for safe lid closure
- Lever-operated lower latch to secure the clamshell body
A stainless steel-sheathed thermocouple ensures accurate temperature readings, while dual mechanical relays distribute the load to extend relay life and firing consistency.
Smart Controls, Thoughtful Touches
The Sentinel Touch Xpress touchscreen controller gives you full command of your firing schedules, ramp rates, and hold times. Easily program and repeat complex firing sequences with precision. A convenient on/off switch allows you to cut power to the controller when the kiln is not in use.
The cool-to-touch wooden handles on both the lid and clamshell body are comfortable and safe to grip, even during long firing sessions.
Optional Accessories for Expanded Use

Paragon CS-14D Glass Fusing Kiln
Paragon’s square CS-14D digital glass clamshell kiln operates on a standard household outlet and fires up to nine 4" x 4" glass tiles. Imagine the murals you could make with this kiln. Fire small glass bowls, pendants, earrings, cufflinks, and even bracelets. Try out the newest glass techniques. Enjoy glittering dichroic glass. Make gifts that your loved ones will treasure. When you own a Paragon CS-14D clamshell, you can experiment with glass fusing to your heart’s content. The CS-14D heats from the top for even heat distribution across the glass surface. The lid elements are mounted in pinless element grooves. Element pins are no longer needed because the element coils are wider than the groove opening. This helps eliminate dust in the firing chamber.
Kiln lifts out of the way for easy loading
The kiln lifts up and out of the way so you can assemble glass pieces inside the kiln. Add stringers and frit to delicate designs. When the kiln shelf is loaded and you are ready to fire, lower the kiln in place. The kiln is easy to open because of two counter-weight springs mounted under the kiln. The kiln base extends 4" in the back to support the weight of the kiln when in the open position. The base comes with mar-proof rubber feet. The CS-14D is dual-opening: You can open the kiln by lifting the kiln body or by lifting only the lid. Lift the kiln body out of the way to assemble glass directly on the shelf; open the lid to load glass over a slumping mold. The clamshell kiln can be opened by lifting the kiln body or the kiln lid, but never both at the same time. The kiln is equipped with safety latches on the side. The gravity-operated top latch holds the lid closed; the lever-operated bottom latch holds the kiln body closed.
Protective steel lid cover
The top of the lid is protected with a painted sheetmetal cover. The sheetmetal is bent to cover the sides of the lid, and the steel is welded at the corners. You will be amazed at the sturdy construction that has made Paragon kilns renowned. The self-adjusting lid floats at fusing temperatures.
Reliability at the heart of the kiln
The CS-14D has a two-year warranty. A heavy steel base supports the reversible brick bottom completely. These features are extra assurance that your Paragon kiln is built to last. No extra stand is needed. For your convenience, flip the switch on the front panel to turn off power to the controller when the kiln is not in use. The large, comfortable wooden lid and kiln handles stay cool. Paragon kilns are made in America to exacting standards. The CS-14D can ship by UPS/FedEx within the United States to give you a lower shipping cost and faster service. A specially designed carton and foam padding assure that the kiln will arrive safely. (Please note: The CS-14D is in an oversized box to insure that it arrives safely. The size incurs an extra UPS charge.)
Thermocouple with "special limit" wire
The thermocouple senses temperature inside the kiln. It is the small rod that extends into the firing chamber. The ¼" wide Type-K, 14-gauge, exposed-tip thermocouple is made with special-limit wire for superior accuracy. The exposed tip gives the controller a fast response time for even temperatures during holds. The thermocouple is made in America to our exacting standards.
Designed for production
Paragon’s warranty is not affected by frequency of use. Fire your new kiln every day if you want, even in commercial settings. That will have no effect on the warranty period.
