This Mother of Pearl luster is used to give a pearlized finish. Lusters should be applied with a clean brush and should be fired at cone 018 in a well ventilated kiln.
Working with luster is not quite the same as working with other glazes, because the material is slightly different. The main thing to be aware of before you begin experimenting with gold luster underglazes is the absolute necessity of great ventilation. We suggest decorating your artwork and allowing it to dry while under a fume hood, if possible; if that’s not an option, we suggest wearing a fume-filtering respirator and doing your decorating in a space with good air filtration, circulation, or ventilation.
