The sensing rod passes through the tube assembly and applies its weight to the small cone. This is a critical piece of the dawson sitter system, and these rods can bend over many years of use. You can make sure your sitter is calibrated properly by using a gauge washer which can be found here.

If you are not sure what size you need, remove it completely and measure it.
