The rib's slightly bevelled edge eliminates potential friction between the wood and the clay, which is a common issue in maintaining shape and form while throwing. This edge also creates a smooth and compressed surface, additiing strength and stability to the pot. Additionally, the strategically offset hole in the rib provides for dexterity in movement as well as a steady grip while throwing.
