Stilt Cleaning Made Easy
Stilts are an essential tool for any PYOP but keeping them clean can be a seriously tedious task. To easily knock most glaze off the points of stilts, all you need is a lidded bucket and coarse sand.

A sieve isn’t necessary but speeds up the whole process. I recommend using a 1-2 gallon bucket. Fill the bucket one third to halfway with sand. Drop the stilts in the bucket, close the lid, and shake.

You may want to shake larger stilts individually to avoid damage. After a solid shake, run the whole bucket through a wide mesh sieve to easily separate the stilts and the sand.

A ⅛ or ¼ inch gold panning sieve works well for this! A sieve will help avoid unnecessary pokes and glaze splinters. If you don’t have a wide mesh sieve protective gloves or tongs are recommended to grab the stilts to avoid glaze shard splinters.

Replace sand depending on how frequently your stilts are used and cleaned. Additional cleaning may be required for thicker glaze areas or glaze that has run, but this is a sure fire method to save time and frustration.
