Kiwi Underglaze offers a complete palette of 50 vibrant, fluxed colors. It can be applied directly onto greenware or bisqueware and performs well at both earthenware and stoneware temperatures.
To achieve the best results, ensure that your layers are kept thin. One coat of paint results in a translucent finish, two coats provide a semi-opaque effect, and three coats create a bold, solid color.
For bisqueware: Apply the underglaze and cover with a clear glaze, then proceed with a glaze fire.
For greenware: Paint it first, then bisque-fire at cone 06 before applying glaze.
For bisqueware that has undergone an extra bisque firing: A second bisque firing at cone 06 will harden the color before glazing.
When fired, the colors become more intense with a glossy, rich finish. If you prefer a soft, velvety matte finish, skip the glaze and fire to cone 06 or higher. This approach is excellent for sculptural work and decorative surfaces.
If things thicken, add just a splash of water to rehydrate - don’t drown the pigment.
