Pro Series Mixing Guide

Wet mixing from dry powder:

The starting point for most of the Pro Series glazes is 10 oz. - 12 oz. (300ml - 355ml) of water for Every 1 lb of dry glaze.

Some glazes require more water or less water per pound of dry glaze, so we recommend starting with 10 oz. and adding small amounts until you reach the correct specific gravity.

If the specific gravity is correct, but the slurry is too thick, the viscosity can be adjusted by adding a small amount Darvan. Alternatively if a glaze is too thin, a solution of Epsom Salt and water can be added to thicken the slurry.

For best results, mix throughly with a mechanical mixer by adding dry powder to water and sieving with a 60 mesh or 80 mesh sieve.

Our values are based on a 1-2 second quick dip on a cone 06 bisque Laguna B-Mix 5, Laguna MC-60 @ Cone 6 & Standard 105 @ Cone 06 clay bodies. The values may need to be adjusted to fit your clay body, and application style.

For best safety practice, make sure you are wearing a NIOSH approved resiprator, or are in a well-ventilated area, and mix slowly adding dry powder to water.
