Talc is the common name of magnesium silicate hydrate, or steatite. Steatite, in turn, is another name for soapstone. The particular talc that we carry here at The Ceramic Shop is low in calium and appears grey in its unfired state, but don't worry -- add this to your low-fire whiteware claybodies and get a crisp white result!
Our high organic talc yields good green strength and plasticity. You will find this is a major component in low fire, Cone 06-Cone 2 whiteware clay bodies.
