About Dolan Tools:
Each Dolan tool is completely handmade from the finest high
carbon knife steel. Dolan Tools are meticulously formed and sharpened using
methods only used by Dolan Tools. The finest edge of a Dolan tool is tempered
and treated to withstand the vigor of the true ceramic artist. Couple the
superior tool head with a fine lathe turned hardwood handle and the tool
becomes the instrument of your expression. Dolan Tools believes that you
deserve a tool that has been given the same personal care as the prices that
are created with them.
Caring For Your Dolan Tools:
Dolan believes using your tools often is the best way to
keep them in optimal condition. With continual use, rinsing after handling, and
storing them in a dry place, you will retain the quality and prolong your tool’s
life. If you find yourself in a position where you may not use your Dolan tool
for a while, Dolan recommends coating it in a fine layer of oil, any oil will
do. This will preserve your tool for when you are ready to use it.
If for any reason you decide on sharpening your tools,
please take caution that the edge of each of the ceramic tools are refined to a
razor’s edge. Use the utmost care while sharpening to avoid any injuries.
In order to sharpen your tools, there are three methods:
One, use an oil or water whetstone. Two, use a diamond file. Or three, send
your tools back to Dolan and they will restore the tools edge.
Under no circumstances use any power tools or any other
process that will heat up the steel. Dolan Tools are made with great care and
heating the steel will destroy the temper resulting in a tool that will never
hold its edge again.

100 L Series
The (S) version of the 100 Series combine the durability and appeal that made our 100 series f amous with the versatility of a smaller size. These tools are especially handy for detailed and delicate pieces.
200 Series Knives
Dolan knives, like the rest of their tools, are made from the highest quality steel available. They come in a variety of lengths and levels of flexibility.
300 Series Trim Tools
Dolan's heavy duty line is made from high carbon knife steel, permanently bonded with industrial adhesive in hardwood handles that have been
oil/resin soaked to seal them against moisture. The 300 Series tool is ideal for trimming, slicing, and shaping greenware
400 Series Trim Tools
Dolan's medium range line of professional cutting tools are similar to the larger 300 Series tools. The 400 Series tool offers a higher variety of tool head shapes. Additionally the smaller handle makes it ideal for precise trimming and shaping.
500 Series Trim Tools
These tools combine a variety of popular shapes, versatile sizes, and various gauges of steel to fit the needs of any ceramic artist.
Turning Hooks
These turning tools were designed in Dolan's studio to speed the removal of clay with the production potter in mind.
These very popular items are available in either curved (C), flat (F), or angled edges (A) and are available for both right and left handed potters. Please specify accordingly when placing an order.
