Most online orders ship throughout the US primarly with UPS Ground. If your order is shipping on a pallet we will inform you of the actually LTL carrier. It is important to note that items indicated as Free Shipping or Economy Shipping are within the continental US only. Most UPS orders ship within 24-48 hours of receiving the order; however, if you need expedited shipping we suggest calling us. If your order has a back order of certain items you will be informed via email and/or it will be indicated on your packing slip. There will be no additional shipping charge for back ordered items. Back ordered items may ship via USPS, UPS, or a service of our choice.
We ship all over the world! To see what it will cost to ship your International Order, simply add items to your cart and select your country at checkout. Please note that the shipping costs calculated online reflect pricing through the United States Postal Service for First-Class Shipping (for orders up to 4 pounds) or Priority Shipping (for orders up to 66 pounds). We do use a different carrier in some cases, and it is often more affordable to ship your order. In cases where the shipping cost is less than what you were charged, we will happily refund you the difference. For large items such as kilns and equipment, or for bulk orders, you should create a list online and then email or call us so that we can calculate accurate shipping costs for you. Important to understand: All import duties, taxes, and any other shipping fees are the responsibility of you the cosignee. Sometimes the taxes are included in the shipping charges and other times your Country's Customs office will hold your shipment for fees. Any import fees are not The Ceramic Shop's responsibility. <b>At checkout, shipping totals for kilns and equipment, will not reflect your true costs. If you are interested in a kiln, wheel, or orders above 66 pounds, you must call or email for a shipping quote.</b>
Choosing the right shipping method for your order:
We offer multiple shipping options through our website including free freight (when applicable), in store pick up, local delivery, and UPS ground. Please make sure your order qualifies for free freight shipping before selecting the "free shipping" method. Failure to choose the accurate shipping method will result to a delayed shipment of your order. If you live outside of the US or require a USPS method of shipment please contact us and we will be happy to get you a price. If you are unsure of which shipping option to select please contact us at 215-427-9665 or contact us via email. On larger school orders we may need to ship via freight companies, any extra costs incurred from these companies may be passed on to the school, for example Limited access, or special services such as in building delivery. Please call for large shipments, 6 plus pallets or full truck loads so we can quote you an accurate price.
Pick Up In Store:
Choosing this option allows you to convenietly shop and pay for your items online and pick up your order in our walk-in showroom at your convenience. Please allow a minimum of 24 hours for us to gather your order. Feel Free to call before coming in to assure your order is ready. Our store hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.
Local Delivery With The Ceramic Shop Truck
Consult the chart for your local shipping charge. The minimum order for our truck to deliver is $300. Minimum order to Brooklyn and beyond is $400. Customers located more than 2 hours away should call for rates. We can usually ship your order with a common carrier for $99.00. The Ceramic Shop Delivery Truck can deliver up to 9,000 lbs per delivery. We currently have 2 delivery trucks: one 10' box truck with a 3,000lb limit, the other is a 16' truck with a commercial lift gate.
We do deliver in our trucks locally under the minumum $300 order requirement. These rates are based on a $150 minimun order or approximately 500lbs of clay. Under $300 rates: within Philadelphia cost = $49 and up to 1 hour away= $69. Call for details.
As an Individual placing orders online you will not be charged for additional shipping of back ordered items. We usually can put smaller items in USPS mailers or hand delivered by our regional delivery service providers. All schools, Art Centers, and businesses may choose to drop back orders or have them delivered on our next visit. If you absolutely need the items and we can not get them back in stock in time to deliver with your initial shipment, you will have to pay for delivery of those back ordered items.
I ordered a kiln -- now what?
All kiln manufacturers make kilns on demand, which means as they get orders they make the kilns. So if you have ordered a kiln online, you will be charged at that moment, and you can expect your kiln in anywhere from approx. 1 week to 4 weeks. Many kilns come direct to us and then we ship them out to you and many drop ship direct to your address. Smaller test kilns, we may have in stock and even larger more popular models we may have in stock. The Ceramic Shop or the kiln manufacturer will contact you when your kiln has shipped. Please be ready for it on arrival. If you haven't heard from us that doesn't mean we haven't processed your kiln order. We try to process all kiln orders with in 24 hour of receiving them because we know the turn around can take up to 4 weeks. If the kiln is shipped from us or from the manufacturer most likely you will recieve some notice. We ask our manufacturers to notify us and you when the item is shipped so you can be ready to receive the order. Remember a 7 cubic kiln packaged on a skid with a furniture kit including the pallet could weight up to 500lbs. We suggest you have a box cutter, drill, hammer, and at least one other person to help unbox and set up your kiln. It is not the responsibility of the trucking company to do anything but deliver the kiln to your address at the curb. It is very important you provide the correct ship to address. Any changes to your ship to address after your order has been placed will result in a charge. Any special delivery services you need we can help provide at additional costs. For example in house delivery, or cooridinating a special time for your delivery.

Free Freight Truck Delivery: Items with this icon in the item description ship on a common carrier truck within the Continental US for FREE and does not include lift gate service. Do not choose this option unless your item has this icon in the description. Hydrobats do not qualify for free shipping. If you require a lift gate for your delivery, we charge a flat fee of $40. The lift gate allows heavy deliveries to be lowered to the ground and are typically required for all residential deliveries. $99 Flat Rate Freight Delivery: L&L Kilns with this icon ship for a flat fee of $99. If you are within 2 hours of Philadelphia we can also install the kiln for you! Freight Truck Delivery: Items with this icon will ship on a commercial truck LTL. We have multiple freight carriers and will search for the best possible price for your shipment. UPS Ground Shipping: We ship the majority of our orders via UPS Ground as it offers quick shipping speeds without charging too much. Customers in the United States can look at this map to get an estimated shipping time frame from our warehouse in Norristown.
UPS Economy Shipping: For orders that weigh 9 pounds or less, we are happy to offer our UPS Economy option. This option is actually a service called UPS SurePost, which means UPS will take your package(s) to your region and hand it over to your local post office who will complete the delivery to your door. The estimated delivery date will be about 1-2 days later than choosing Ground, but is generally more affordable.
UPS Free Shipping: Items with this icon ship for free in the Continental US, usually with UPS Ground. UPS does not guarantee ship dates but generally takes 2-3 days to ship on the east coast, 4 days for the midwest, and 5-6 days for the westcoast. If you need faster service or even overnite delivery, call and we may be able to rush your order for an additional charge. There will be additional charges for Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and Canada. Calculated shipping totals for international shipments through our shopping cart may be insufficent, and you will be required to pay the additional balance if there is one. For accurate International shipments call us today and we can give a shipping quote over the phone or by email.
Please note: If you are ordering additional items, you may be charged shipping for those items, but you will not be charged shipping on the items with this icon. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact us.
A word about furniture kits: Furniture kits typically ship for FREE when you purchase a kiln. So you will be responsible for shipping costs when you purchase a kit seperate from a kiln. We will contact you with your additional charges.
We take great care in packing your orders, however damages can occur during transit. All products like kilns, wheels, equipment, hydro-bats leave our dock in perfect condition, but it is essential you inspect your order immediately after receiving it. You have up to 3 days to inform us or the shipper of any UPS damages. In the event that a damage does occur, The Ceramic Shop will file a damage claim with the carrier. UPS may require an inspection of the damages for items exceeding $100, so please hold onto the original box and packing materials for 7 business days. If you are receiving your order by freight, you may ask the driver to wait while you inspect the kiln or wheel. We have chosen carriers who are very safe with your items but always inspect your delivery. You should also take a look at the packing list to make sure the order is correct. By signing the BOL (Bill of Lading) you are waving your rights to claim any damages in the future. If you suspect damages (for instance, if you saw a small puncture in the side of the box or a corner crushed) you can reserve the right to inspect the box later by simply indicating on the bill of lading that you were unable to inspect at time of delivery, damages may have occurred but are unseen until further inspection. If you deny any shipment, and have the box returned and there is NO damages to be found, you will be responsible for any additional handling fees as well as return shipping costs. Do not deny shipment unless you have inspected the contents and can prove damages.
